I find it very annoying that SuperMemo automatically changes the hook of a given branch upon adding a number of elements. Is this a bug?
Answer:
For performance reasons, SuperMemo arranges elements into separate folders of the knowledge tree if their number exceeds the limit set by Children limit per branch. It also automatically changes the hook (i.e. the appending point) to make sure it adds new elements to a folder with the fewest children. 
If you would like to change the present limit of elements per branch, select Tools : Options (Ctrl+Alt+O), click the SuperMemo tab, and slide the Children limit per branch control to a desired value. Alternatively, you can manually build the knowledge tree of your collection. For details, read: Creating the knowledge tree

From search to the location in the knowledge tree

Use Tools : Arrange in folders from the contents menu on branches that contain a large number of children

Answer:
It is highly recommended you keep all your knowledge in just one collection. Categories have been created in order to help you manage different subjects globally. They help you to quickly switch between different branches of the contents tree and keep the same look for all items in a given category. See: Using categories

The place where new elements are added

I would like my new items to be added always at the end of the knowledge tree, however, SuperMemo appends them all in different places.
Answer:
To get your elements added to a specific place in the knowledge tree, click Contents, select the location and click Insert at the bottom of the contents window. You can also make your selection of the append point (so called hook) more permanent in two ways:

1. Create a category in the contents window (e.g. with Edit : Create category from the main menu). As long as the new category is selected as the default category, choosing Add New will add elements to this category. You can check if a given category is selected as default by inspecting the category combo box on the Tools toolbar. For more see: Using categories
2. You can set any element in the contents window as the append hook by pressing the Hook button on the edit toolbar in the contents window

The knowledge tree in my collection has grown very large. In effect, it is very difficult to perform drag&drop operations. Is there an option in SuperMemo that would make it possible to automatically scroll the contents window as it is available in the Microsoft Excel?
Answer:
The simplest way to perform "far reaching" drag-and-drops is to open a second contents window.
However, it is also possible to auto-scroll. Just you move your mouse pointer to the border of the window

Is it possible to have different priorities of items in the pending queue? E.g. if I first want to memorize what about school and then all kinds of hobbies?
Answer:
Pending queue is linear but can be sorted by various criteria. However, the recommended solution in your case is to keep school and hobby material in different branches or different categories. Then you will be able to use branch learning. For example, select School branch in the contents window and click Learn (or choose Ctrl+Alt+L)

Yes. Both Ctrl and Shift multiple selections work in the contents window. You can drag such selections between two contents windows

SuperMemo limits the number of children per branch for performance reasons (this limit is set in Options). If you would like to override this behavior, build the tree in the contents window using Add, Insert, etc. Remember that by building long branches, you will slow down SuperMemo

Adding topics and items with the Ins key in Contents (#28955)

You can add elements in the contents window by pressing Ins, but there's no keyboard shortcut listed for inserting topics or items
Answer:
Ins will insert elements of the selected default type. Change the default type in the Contents toolbar combo from Topics to Items and Ins will start adding new items
